Here I ponder writing and music as a gift.

ColetteKay.com is a project of vulnerability, expression through writing and composing music, and a yearning to connect with and inspire others through the practice of both.

Begun in 2014 , this site first served as my “diary of destinations” for two years while I traveled and began a business. This led to contributing to other publications, editing roles, many thoughtful reader comments and my travel photography displayed at the Ecological Society of America conference.

For this I had been proud, but old points of pride turn obsolete when life’s purpose changes.

I find myself on a new path reclaiming inherent creativity, recapturing an animalness hidden away for several years in favor of building a career. Sustaining income will always be necessary, but I have been called back to myself and this is where I am today.

ColetteKay.com features recurring themes: reverence for our natural world, contemplation of past events, death and nostalgia, love of others and self (and of course the loss of it), music appreciation and elements of personal development. I hope it resonates.

Consider that a commonly shared sadness among humans is the retrospective realization of what we did not do with our time. Consider the time spent not being what and who we are, and the failure to create when creation and connection are, in some sense, all we have. A favorite quote:

“The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.” – Mary Oliver

I have learned that we have limited time. I am using it now.
